How to join

IIAT offers membership in three categories—agency membership for independent agencies, associate membership for companies, MGAs, surplus lines agencies and other non-agent providers of services to independent agents, and a student membership.

Agency Membership

Eligibility: IIAT membership is open to agencies that meet all of these criteria

1. Holds a Texas general property and casualty insurance license
   
2. Are actively engaged in business for one or more property or casualty insurance companies
   
3. Operate on a commission basis and as an independent contractor
   
4. Have, by contract with insurance companies, ownership of agency accounts and policy expirations
   
5. Subscribe to IIAT's articles of incorporation and bylaws
   
6. Transact business in accordance with the principles of the American Agency System and as defined in the IIAT charter
   

To be eligible for membership in IIAT, an agency must have the contractual freedom and unqualified discretion to place business with any insurance company available to the agency. The agency cannot be associated publicly with any insurance company that limits in any way the free choice of markets by the agency.

8. Subscription to the Insurance Journal of Texas/South Central
   
9. Membership in the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America, which provides a web site with a comprehensive information database, a monthly magazine and use of the "Big I" logo on agency advertising
10. FREE participation in the Trusted Choice national branding campaign

Membership application: The IIAT membership application is available as a downloadable pdf document—to read this document you need the Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Membership dues: IIAT dues are based on the number of full-time (20 or more hours per week) agency employees, including owners/shareholders, at all locations, with an additional per-location fee for agencies with branch offices. IIAT's fiscal year is Sept. 1—Aug. 31; therefore, your initial membership fee will vary depending on the month you join IIAT. Your membership will be paid through August. If you join in June, July or August, your membership is automatically effective through August of the following year.

Associate Membership

To qualify for associate membership, an individual or company must be engaged in a profession or business related to the American Agency System, but in a capacity other than as an insurance agent or agency.

Membership dues: Annual dues are $1,000 a year

Benefits: IIAT members are entitled to numerous member benefits, including

1. Bi-weekly Texas Agent newsletter; Personal Lines Report newsletter every 6 weeks and Capitol Report during legislative session
2. FREE access to InfoCentral, IIAT's comprehensive online technical reference library service; plus a free one hour training session on getting the most out of InfoCentral
3. Participation in IIAT's new Job Board at the member rate
   
4. Access to the Accredited Customer Service Representative designation program
   
5. Discounted prices on all IIAT publications, instructional CDs and DVDs
   
6. Discounted registration fees for all education programs and the annual conference
   
7. Discount on conference exhibit booth fee
8. Exclusive participation in the Small Agency Conference
9. Inclusion in associate member listing on iiat.org
10. An electronic agency member mailing list up to twice annually

Student Membership

To qualify for student membership, an individual must currently be enrolled in a community college or university.
