IMPACT

IMPACT, IIAT's Political Action Committee

Each year, all individuals from IIAT member agencies and organizations are invited to participate by contributing funds to support campaigns of candidates for legislative, judicial and executive branch offices. IMPACT, the largest insurance-producer political action program in Texas, has been one of the state's major political action committees since it was begun in 1972. It is one of the first political action committees formed under a new law allowing their creation.

Political offices targeted for contributions:

Texas House of Representatives (150)

  Texas Senate (31)
  Governor
  Lieutenant Governor
  Attorney General
  Comptroller
Members of the Texas Supreme Court (9)

Importance of IMPACT:

Provides a necessary and important complement to the political goals of IIAT and member agencies
Keeps IIAT and member agencies competitive in the political arena

Allows IIAT members to achieve much greater political clout as a group than they could have individually

How the IMPACT program works:

In March of each year, IIAT members' financial support for IMPACT is requested through solicitations for

  • Personal checks or credit card contributions from owners and producers in incorporated agencies (corporate contributions are prohibited by law)
  • Credit card contributions or agency checks from unincorporated agencies
Funds are deposited in a separate bank account and reserved for use only for campaign contributions
Selections of campaign contributions are made after review by IIAT governmental affairs staff, the IIAT general counsel lobby team, IMPACT regional vice presidents and local association leaders
Checks for candidates are presented to candidates in person by an IIAT member or IIAT staff member
All income, including names of all donors, and all candidate campaign contributions are reported to the Texas Ethics Commission
Financial records are audited each year by the certified public accounting firm of Erickson & Demel
