College Insurance Programs
There are several colleges and universities in Texas that offer insurance curricula:
Alvin Community College recently partnered with BCO Training to provide
quality insurance training and continuing education for people desiring careers
in the growing insurance industry.
Pre-licensing training classes will prepare people for licensure exams
to become life and health insurance agents, property and casualty agents, managing
general agents, surplus line agents and limited line agents through the Texas
Department of Insurance. The TDI Provider number for BCO Training is #3897.
TDI requires 30 CE hours every two years to maintain a license. Topics will include: insurance regulations and ethics, Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care, basic health and life insurance, auto, homeowners and more.
Austin Community College offers Insurance Continuing Education curriculum through the provision of non-credit courses to the public and to businesses on a contract basis. ACC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Continuing Education Units (CEUs). They offer both ARM 55: Risk Control and INSR 1005: Personal Lines Property and Casualty.

Baylor University, located in Waco, Texas, is a private Baptist university
and a nationally ranked liberal arts institution. Chartered in 1845 by the Republic
of Texas, Baylor is the oldest, continually operating university in the state.
Though 80 percent of students come from within Texas, there are students
from all 50 states and 70 countries.
Baylor University’s Hankamer
School of Business graduates are individuals with world-class business skills,

Hankamer’s School of Business offers insurance curricula through its Risk Management and Insurance program which focuses on the financial and economic characteristics of potential exposures to loss faced by firms and individuals, and the techniques available to minimize the costs associated with such exposures.
Tarrant County College has the largest community college continuing
education insurance program in Texas.
Insurance Representative Certificate – With help from technology and the community college network, you can access the Insurance Representative Certificate program online and complete most of the courses from your computer. You can attend Tarrant County College from any city through the online Virtual College of Texas. Tarrant
County College South Campus Continuing Education Services has been involved
in insurance training for more than 20 years. They offer both classroom-based
training and internet-delivered courses.
South Campus offers a variety of training in the field of insurance:
- Adjuster Training – All lines adjuster training
and review for the public adjuster exam
- Agent Training – Review for the multi-lines
license to sell auto and homeowner insurance
- Customer Service Representative – Review for the Insurance Service Representative Exam
- Continuing Education for All Licenses
- National Designation Preparation – Review

University of North Texas’ College of Business Administration is one of the largest business colleges in the nation and is accredited by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The college offers more than 30 degree programs for the 5,800 undergraduate and graduate students in the departments of:

You may choose to study decision sciences, entrepreneurship, finance, financial services, marketing, organizational behavior and human resource management, operations and supply chain management, risk management and insurance, general business, economics, or real estate while pursuing a B.B.A. degree.
Insurance curricula is offered through the Risk Management and Insurance Program. During your course work in risk management and insurance, you will take classes in risk theory, life insurance, property and liability insurance, estate planning, and the financial effects of risk on businesses and nonprofit organizations. You may also take courses in international financial systems and employee benefit programs.

The University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs
School of Business is one of the largest and most distinguished business
schools in the country, dedicated to educating the business leaders of tomorrow
while creating knowledge of critical significance for industry and society.
McCombs educates more than 6,000 students each year, creating one of
the largest cumulative impacts of any business school in the world. About 2,000
professionals also participate each year in programs designed for working executives
and their firms.

The McCombs School of Business offers insurance curricula through both an undergraduate and graduate Risk Management and Insurance Program.
The University of Texas at Austin’s undergraduate Risk Management
and Insurance Program is one of the highest ranked programs in the United States
(#9 in the US News and World Report Rankings and #4 in Gorman Report rankings).
Graduates are prepared for careers in risk management for corporations or for
insurance industry positions. The coursework is also relevant to future financial
leaders.
The MBA in Risk Management is designed to provide a state-of-the-art education for future financial managers who are responsible for the risk management function, such as in Enterprise Risk Management, in a business firm, or who are interested in insurance and brokerage operations. The Ph.D. program prepares the graduate for an academic career or a career in industry.
