Most agency staff must be licensed by the State of Texas. Agent licensing information
can be obtained from the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI). TDI contracts with
Thomson
Prometric to provide license testing and applications.
Study materials for the property/casualty agent license; insurance service representative license, managing general agent, surplus lines agent, risk manager or multi-lines adjuster license can be purchased through IIAT. The License Study Guide, License Study Guide Supplement and Exam Simulator to help you prepare for licensing exams are available. If you are applying for the life, accident and health agent license, IIAT also has a study guide.
If your business structure is going to be that of a partnership or corporation,
evidence of financial responsibility must be provided either in the form of E&O
insurance with a limit of at least $250,000 containing a deductible of no more
than 10 percent of the limit or a surety bond in the sum of $25,000. IIAT does
have an E&O program for member agencies. Information
about joining IIAT is available.
