Fort Worth, Texas

What else can you do in Fort Worth?

A LOT!

"As the 17th largest city in the United States and the No. 1 tourist destination in Texas, Fort Worth welcomes nearly 5.5 million visitors each year. No other city boasts such an unmistakable mix of preserved Western heritage and unrivaled artistic offerings. After all, Fort Worth is where you can see Michelangelo's first painting and see the world's only twice-daily cattle drive, all within minutes of Sundance Square, our downtown entertainment district." — Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau

Museums & Galleries

In Fort Worth, you can explore many museums that are world-famous for the beauty of their architecture and the quality of their collections. The Fort Worth Cultural District, home to five wonderful museums in a relaxing, park-like setting is a great place to start your tour. Throughout the city, you'll also find museums devoted to Western heritage and Fort Worth's colorful past. It's no wonder Fort Worth is considered "the museum capital of the Southwest."

You'll also find a magnificent and thriving performing arts scene in Fort Worth, including symphony, ballet, opera, and live theater.

Tours

Want to pack in as much of Fort Worth as you can during your stay? It doesn't get much easier than using a pre-planned tour.

There are self-guided or docent-led tours at a variety of venues, and many are free of charge. Get maps for district-by-district or city-wide walking tours. Fort Worth's Convention & Visitor's Bureau can also help arrange motorcoach tours, self-drive tours, limousine tours, Segway tours... even helicopter and flight-seeing tours. Choose from tours based on the length of your visit, special interests and themes, or how you want to get around. They have the maps and brochures you'll need and the contacts for professional tour guides that will help you get the most out of your visit.

Sundance Square
Fort Worth's downtown has gained a reputation as one of the country's most lively urban settings. The 35-block Sundance Square entertainment district is home to a collection of restaurants, live music clubs, theatres, shops, exciting nightlife and the beautiful Bass Performance Hall, named as one of the top 10 opera houses in the world. 201 Main Street, Suite 700

In April, NASCAR brings its show to town for the Samsung 500. Then, come June, IndyCars show their stuff at the Bombardier Learjet 550. And NASCAR returns in November with its year-ending Chase for the Cup at the Dickies 500. In just a decade, Texas Motor Speedway has become one of the premier tracks in auto racing, producing such winners as Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, and Al Unser, Jr. 3545 Lone Star Circle

"¡Hola, Mola!" — April 2010 (see page 80)

By Courtney Dabney

The buildings are as phenomenal as the artwork housed within. Now it's time to say hello to the newest marvel in town. It is the Museum of Living Art; MOLA — and you will find it at the Fort Worth Zoo.

"Diners & Dives: Doing What You Love Isn't Good Enough" — April 2010 (see page 94)

By Jody Dean

"I admire entreprenuers. they hang in there through the vicissitudes of demand and tastes -- and no matter how hard they get punched, they always pop back up like a child's inflatable boxing toy."

"Diners & Dives: Delicious Beyond Description" — March 2010 (see page 64)

By Jody Dean

"Cooper's is also known for 'the Big Chop' — gian pork kportions two inches thick so tender and tasty that even the pig had to be proud. But the big smoker that greets you when you walk in is a treasure chest containing much more. Meats of every variety, seasoned and smoked to perfection."
