IMPACT
Why Two PACs Are Better Than One
A Political Action Committee or PAC is a group of individuals with common interests and political goals organized to
provide information and financial support to candidates for elective offices. As a member of IIAT you have the option to
join two PACs.
- IMPACT is the Insurance Men and Women’s Political Action Committee of Texas.
- InsurPac is the national Big I's PAC created to provide information and financial support to candidates at the federal
level.
You can help make a difference at both the state and national government levels by investing in both IMPACT and InsurPac.
Your future may depend on it.*

IIAT’s state political action fund supports the campaigns of Texas legislators and state office
holders. IIAT's grassroots program is the envy of every insurance lobbying group in Austin. And this grassroots effort
is dependent on IIAT's ability to raise campaign money for pro-business candidates. Your interests get heard in Austin
when you participate.
- In 2006 IMPACT was involved in 191 legislative races and all statewide races.
- 91 percent of IMPACT-supported candidates in 2006 were elected, including all statewide office holders.
|
IIABA’s national political action fund supports the campaigns of congressional and national office
holders. Its success has led Fortune magazine to consistently rate the IIABA as one of the most powerful and
effective lobbying groups in Washington. That power rests in part on its ability to help elect candidates who support
sound business practices.
- InsurPac supported 237 races in the last election winning 206 of them for an 87 percent victory rate.
- InsurPac candidates won 14 out of 22 open seats.

*The Texas Ethics Commission has the following to say about PAC contributions.
The current Election Code generally bans corporate money except where it is expressly allowed:
-
A corporation may make political expenditures to finance the establishment or administration of a general-purpose
committee (PAC).
-
A corporation may make political expenditures to finance the solicitation of political contributions to a general-purpose
committee (PAC) from the employees and their families. Members of a trade association, such as IIAT, may be solicited
as if they were stockholders of the corporation.
Under the law an incorporated insurance agency may also collect contributions from individual employees
and then write a single check to the general-purpose PAC, in this case IMPACT, in an amount equal to the sum of the
individual contributions. The incorporated agency is required to provide a list of all employees making an individual
contribution and amounts contributed showing the total of all contributions is equal to the amount of the check submitted
to IMPACT.

Give to both IMPACT and InsurPac and encourage your staff to give.
