  • Frank Swingle of Dallas Receives 2019 Drex Foreman Award

    Jun 26, 2019

    Swingle_Drex 2The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT) is proud to announce that Frank  Swingle, Jr., founder and CEO of Swingle Collins & Associates in Dallas, was named the 2019 Drex Foreman Award winner at IIAT’s Insurcon in Grapevine on June 21. Named after Drex Foreman, who served as the chief executive director of IIAT for more than 30 years, the Drex Foreman Award is the highest honor IIAT bestows annually to an individual who has contributed greatly to the independent agency system.

    Frank founded Swingle Collins & Associates 37 years ago based on his commitment to help successful business owners in the North Texas area. His agency’s ability to meet their clients’ risk management needs while attracting great talent and shareholders has resulted in the agency becoming one of the largest independent insurance brokerages in Texas. Under Frank’s leadership, Swingle Collins & Associates has received many accolades, including:

    • Insurance Journal “Top 100 Property/Casualty Agency” for the past three years;
    • Cornerstone Awards recipient for both commercial and personal lines;
    • A “Best” Practices Agency” for more than 20 years; and
    • Dallas Business Journal “Best Places to Work.”

    A key to his agency’s success is Frank’s focus on insurance education. “Frank has established perhaps the strongest internal education program in the industry. He has demonstrated his commitment to helping his employees learn the art of insurance and become true masters of our trade. It is engrained in their culture,” said outgoing IIAT Chair Jeff Brady, president and CEO of Brady, Chapman, Holland & Associates in Houston.

    Whether engaging with the community, business owners, or the agency, Frank attributes his success to his adherence to his core values. “Frank is ‘fiercely’ independent and he truly lives his core values of integrity, knowledge and customer service,” said Brady. Frank has demonstrated these values in additional industry leadership roles, including serving as president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT) and president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas (IIAD), and numerous agency and carrier boards and councils.

    A long-standing member of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, Frank served as president and chairman of the Byron Nelson PGA Tour golf tournament. He also serves on the board of the Salvation Army and is a member of the Addison Rotary Club.

    “I’m tremendously honored to receive this award. I couldn’t be here without my wonderful family and my phenomenal teammates,” said Frank. “None of us could be here without the wonderful environment we have in Texas to sell insurance.  At this event (Insurcon), we see each other as friends – our carrier partners, our vendor partners and competitors. We need to be friends and we need to work together to make this industry as great as it can be,” said Frank.

  • IIAT’s Response to Harvey Recovery Czar’s Comments on Insurance Agents

    Oct 03, 2017

    AUSTIN, TX — During a Texas Tribune event on Friday, Sept. 29, Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp, named by Governor Abbott to lead the state’s recovery from Hurricane Harvey, commented that the insurance industry, specifically insurance agencies, were waiting on FEMA before paying insurance claims.  Sharp said agents need to “step up” and “write a damn check.”

    The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT) would like to take the opportunity on the heels of Sharp’s comments to clarify the role of a Trusted Choice® independent agent in the claims process. “Independent agents are actively on the ground working tirelessly to help Harvey victims file and resolve insurance claims as expediently as possible,” said IIAT President & Executive Director Marit Peters. “Coordinating coverage among property, flood and wind policies, which are often insured through different companies, can be a complex process.”

    Insurance companies pay claims when they are due under an insurance policy. According to the Insurance Council of Texas, insurance companies have already paid out an estimated $2 billion in insurance claims on flooded automobiles and wind damaged homes due to Harvey’s 130-mile-per-hour winds and massive flooding.

    IIAT urges all Texans affected by Harvey to contact their insurance agent for assistance. FEMA has provided guidance on applying for disaster assistance at www.disasterassistance.gov and information on insurance processing for flood coverage can be found here (http://www.iiat.org/docs/default-source/government-resources/eligibility-and-flood-insurance.pdf).
