It's Flood Season: Now Is the Time to Reach Out to Customers

Apr 09, 2020

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecasts that the greatest chances for moderate-to-major flooding during Spring 2020 are in the Red River in the north and parts of the upper Mississippi and Missouri basins. These areas have risk levels which range from above normal to significantly elevated. In addition, all major waterways in the middle of the country are at elevated risk levels.

How You Can Help Customers Prepare
Even those who are not in designated flood zones could be impacted. Now is the time to reach out to customers to make sure they’re aware of their level of risk.

Talking Points to Help During Your Conversations:

  •  In normal years, approximately 25% of flood claims come from outside of high-risk areas.
  • Last year’s Nebraska flooding destroyed thousands of homes and hundreds of businesses, many of which were not in high-risk areas.
  • Almost 80% of properties flooded in Texas by Hurricane Harvey lacked flood insurance.

The forecast is straight-forward. The risk is real, and the stakes are high.
