Help Protect What You've Built: Why IMPACT Matters More than Ever

If you’ve been paying attention to the early conversation around the next legislative session, you’ve probably noticed one theme rising to the top: insurance affordability.

Governor Abbott has made affordability a priority, which means insurance issues are likely to get more attention in Austin in the months ahead. For independent agents, that matters. A lot.

No one understands what is happening in the market better than agents do. You see what clients are dealing with every day. You hear their concerns. You understand the pressures affecting pricing, coverage and availability. And when lawmakers start looking more closely at insurance affordability, that real-world perspective needs to be part of the conversation.

That is why IIAT is continuing to invest in advocacy and why member support is so important right now.

To help strengthen its presence at the Capitol, IIAT has partnered with Marquez Public Affairs, a highly respected Texas government affairs firm with deep experience in legislative advocacy and public policy. Their expertise will help IIAT engage more effectively with lawmakers and decision-makers on the issues that matter most to independent agents.

Of course, strong advocacy takes more than expertise. It also takes support from the people the industry represents.

That is where IMPACT comes in.

IMPACT is IIAT’s political action committee. It helps support the relationships and engagement that give independent agents a stronger voice in the legislative process. In other words, it helps ensure independent agents have a seat at the table when important decisions are made.

And advocacy is not just about contributions. It is also about participation.

One of the most effective things agents can do is build relationships with lawmakers and stay engaged. Legislators listen when they hear from trusted local business owners and community leaders. If you have a relationship with a legislator or legislative staff member, please take a moment to share it with IIAT by filling out the Legislative Contact Form online. Those connections can make a real difference.

You will also be hearing more about advocacy at INSURCON 2026, June 15–17, at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country. Advocacy will be a key focus of the event, and IIAT and Marquez Public Affairs will lead a dedicated Advocacy track with sessions focused on how to advocate effectively for independent insurance agents and the industry.

This is an important moment for our industry. If independent agents want to help shape the conversation, now is the time to stay engaged.
