The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT) has retained Austin-based Marquez Public Affairs (MPA) as its external government affairs advocates before the Texas Legislature, executive branch, and state agencies.

MPA is a Texas-based firm with experience representing trade associations, regulated industries, and Fortune 500 corporations on complex legislative, regulatory, and reputation management issues. The firm has been recognized as a Top Lobby Team in Texas, and its principals have been named "Top Ten" Hired Gun Lobbyists by Capitol Inside. The firm will provide IIAT with direct advocacy and public affairs strategy on issues impacting independent insurance agents.
The MPA team brings extensive experience in Texas state government and policy-making. Firm founder Brandy Marty Marquez previously served as Chief of Staff to Governor Rick Perry and as a Commissioner on the Public Utility Commission of Texas, where she worked on regulatory and policy matters affecting heavily regulated industries.
Co-founder Enrique Marquez held senior staff roles in the Legislature, including Communications Director and Chief of Staff to the Speaker Dade Phelan, and has experience advising clients on legislative strategy, regulatory engagement, and public affairs.
The firm’s team also includes Doug Clements, who has more than a decade of experience working in the Texas Senate and is known for his legislative and policy expertise, and Paytyn Woltersdorf, who has experience at the Texas Capitol and the Public Utility Commission, with a focus on regulatory and legislative issues.
"Partnering with Marquez Public Affairs is a strategic move that strengthens our voice at the Capitol. Their proven expertise and deep understanding of Texas policy will help ensure independent insurance agents are heard and represented on the issues that matter most to them and their clients," said IIAT President and Executive Director Marit Peters.
MPA will represent IIAT throughout the legislative session and in interim activities, working closely with association leadership and members to advance its legislative priorities and its PAC efforts.
