Our Voice Is Getting Heard at the Texas Capitol

The Texas Legislature is in full swing! The Texas House and Senate agendas are getting longer and the drama in the chamber is ramping up. The House Insurance Committee is hearing the last of the House bills and has started hearing Senate bills. The same is true for the Senate Committee on Business & Commerce.

IIAT Chief Legislative Officer Lee Loftis and Director of Government Affairs Regan Ellmer have been busy testifying before both committees, supporting bills that will help keep the insurance industry strong. Here are the bills they’ve testified on so far:

  • HB 679 by Keith Bell regarding workers’ comp experience modifiers being used in bidding contracts
  • HB 2065 by Ed Thompson regarding uncooperative insureds being non-renewed by their insurance company
  • HB 3821 by Mary Ann Perez (an IIAT member) regarding minimum standards for agents who sell TWIA
  • HB 3194 by Mary Ann Perez (an IIAT member) regarding automatic renewals for TWIA commercial policies
  • HB 1437 by Travis Clardy regarding mandatory appraisals in auto insurance policies
  • HB 287 by Julie Johnson regarding getting more up-front money in the hands of a policyholder with an RCV policy
  • SB 2232 by Morgan LaMantia regarding minimum standards for agents who sell TWIA
  • SB 2233 by Morgan LaMantia regarding automatic renewals for TWIA commercial policies

When the IIAT Government Affairs team provides testimony about insurance-related issues at the Texas Legislature, committee members listen. They know Lee and Regan, trust them, and value their opinions.
