Reminder: RLI to Discontinue Underlying Auto Limit C

As previously communicated, RLI will soon discontinue Underlying Auto Limit C (100/300/50) from the Personal Umbrella Program for both new and renewal business.

Effective date

  • Florida*: Renewals effective September 1, 2025, and later
  • All Other States: New** and renewal business effective January 1, 2026, and later

Process overview

Only policies that currently maintain Limit C will receive a notice with their renewal questionnaire advising them of the discontinuance of this limit option. The notice will also appear in the renewal questionnaire packet available in the Forms tab, and will be printed on yellow paper to draw attention.

New York policies

Due to state law, nonrenewal can occur only at three-year intervals. NY insureds will receive a separate but similar notice advising that Limit C will no longer meet minimum requirements effective January 1, 2026, and encouraging them to increase limits before their next three-year renewal.

All notices will advise the insured to contact their insurance agent to discuss their auto liability limit options.

Nonrenewal handling
In any state – including New York, if the policy is at its three-year renewal interval: if an insured returns a renewal questionnaire with Limit C selected, the policy will be nonrenewed. The nonrenewal notice will indicate that coverage may be offered if underlying auto limits are increased to meet eligibility standards.

Please contact your RLI Account Representative with any questions.
