The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) has issued a bulletin with guidance on adjusting claims for damage from the recent winter storm:
- A determination as to whether a policyholder took reasonable care to prevent a loss must be based on the unique circumstances of the claim. TDI expects insurers to consider factors that may have prevented policyholders from maintaining heat or shutting off water.
When communicating with policyholders about losses not covered by their policies, TDI encourages insurers to provide information about the availability of federal assistance.
